Give your HDHP clients a tool they'll actually use
When a client on a high-deductible plan faces a procedure, you can hand them a working answer instead of a disclaimer.
Your clients are on plans where the first few thousand dollars come out of their pocket. When they need an MRI or a colonoscopy or a surgery, they call you. You want to help. The honest answer has been: "Nobody really knows what it costs until the bill arrives." That's a bad answer, and it's not your fault — the tools didn't exist.
HospitalCost gives you a better answer. It's built on the federal price transparency files every U.S. hospital is now required to publish, merged with CMS quality data and insurance-specific negotiated rates. For Virginia and North Carolina today, every major state next.
What your clients can do with it
Look up any procedure at any hospital in their area
Every hospital within 25 miles, ranked by cash price, with CMS star ratings and patient satisfaction side by side. The ranking is honest — cheapest first, but with quality flags visible so they're not trading safety for savings.
See what their specific insurance plan pays at each hospital
We pull the negotiated rates that each hospital has filed with every insurance carrier. Your client picks their plan from a dropdown and sees the rate at every facility in their area. This is data you can't get anywhere else in this form.
Compare cash price vs insurance at the same hospital
In about 41% of cases in our database, the insurance-negotiated rate is higher than the hospital's own cash discount. For a client on an HDHP who hasn't met their deductible, paying cash saves money. We surface these gaps so your clients catch them.
Find financial assistance they'd otherwise miss
Most non-profit hospitals have charity care programs that go unused because patients don't know they exist. We show the thresholds (e.g., "Inova covers 100% below 400% FPL — $124,800 for a family of four") so your client knows to ask.
How partnerships can work
Here's what we can set up, depending on what fits your practice:
Simple referral
Send clients a link to HospitalCost. They use the free tool. We handle the rest. No setup, no login, no fee.
Branded client reports
Your clients get a report on their specific procedure + insurance plan, branded with your firm name and contact. Co-branded PDF they can bring to their appointment.
Broker dashboard (in development)
A shared workspace where you can look up prices for clients, save comparisons, and hand off clean printouts. Tell us what you'd want in it and we'll design around your workflow.
Who this is built for
Independent brokers, small agencies, broker rollups, and HR consultancies advising HDHP clients in Virginia and North Carolina. We're adding states throughout 2026. If you're outside our current coverage and want to be first when we add your state, tell us and we'll prioritize.
What makes this different
Actual published prices, not estimates
Other tools survey patients or model claims data. We use the raw machine-readable files every hospital is required to publish under the CMS Hospital Price Transparency Rule. Every number is traceable to a hospital's own file.
Quality data alongside prices
CMS star ratings, HCAHPS satisfaction, mortality, readmission, and safety data merged with the prices on every facility card. Cheapest is only useful if you also know who's safe.
Independent
Not paid by hospitals, insurance companies, or pharmacy benefit managers. No sponsored listings. No pay-for-placement. Every page has our independence statement in the footer.
Updated continuously
We re-download hospital price files as they're republished. Quality data updates match the CMS release schedule. The data isn't a snapshot — it's current.
Let's talk
Tell us about the clients on your book, the states you work in, and the way you'd want this to show up in front of them. We respond the same business day.
