The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires every hospital to publish a complete, machine-readable file of its standard charges under federal rule 45 CFR Part 180. When a hospital's file falls short, CMS first issues a warning notice — a 90-day window to fix it. If the file still isn't corrected, CMS follows with a corrective action plan (CAP) request, a 45-day deadline to submit a concrete fix. Hospitals that still don't comply can face a civil penalty that scales with bed count.
A place on this list reflects CMS's own compliance review, not a judgment by HospitalCost.
